Took the FR-S on its first road trip this weekend, had a great time up in Utah, and averaged 38 mpg the whole way there and back. Here's a pic for car-related stuffs.
Now to the feels: As some of you guys know, I just started a new semester of college — finally finishing my degree after some years away. Well over the weekend I got a phone call from my reserves unit. I've got orders to report for active duty starting October 1st. That means I have a little over a week to quit 2 jobs, drop all of my classes, and leave behind a lot of great friends I just made. On Friday I go down to my unit to sign my orders, and I have to report next Wednesday. No idea where I'm going yet, or how long I'll be gone either.
On the positive side, active pay and benefits are fairly nice. I'll also have a LOT more free time than I currently have. Plus it's not like I don't have friends in my unit.
Just figured I'd let my Oppo family in on the latest happenings.

I keep hearing people in my unit whispering that they think we are going to get deployed. It would be my first deployment and I wouldn't mind to much if I hadn't already had to wait a year to start school. Just hope it happens after I graduate.

First off, thank you.
Second, enjoy your next week as much as you can, and then stay safe. Best of luck to you sir.

I'll try. My sgt hinted that I'll just be at Fort Huachuca for the duration. So, not exactly Afghanistan, but still close to the Mexican border, if that counts as "dangerous". Haha

I have been seriously too busy to check in. My schedule here, between school, two jobs, and reserves stuff, is 8am - 11:30 pm, 7 days a week. It's fairly insane. I'm actually looking forward to only having work 8-4:30, 5 days a week.

Yeah, luckily I'm at an all-Intel unit, so it's not too common for us to go overseas — unless they send a few of us to attach with another unit. As far as I know, it's just to Fort Huachuca.

That is unfortunate timing, but it sounds like it will work out for you. Also on the MPG front, I drove 650 miles Sunday and averaged just under 28mpg in a Focus ST. 38mpg in a fun car sounds awesome.

I'm in Tucson. You'll be in less danger than me if that's the case. LOL. Regardless of where you are stationed, your sacrifice is appreciated, disrupting your life is never easy and I do hope that everyone you are working with understands.

Pretty sure this one for me would be overseas. The last time they deployed it was to Kuwait.

Damn 38 mpg!? I thought those were only rated at 30 mpg highway. May have jumped a few spots on my new car radar for next summer.

Yeah, it consistently gets above 30. My average was 46 until I started doing 90mph on I-15. Just keep your foot out of it.
Backseats are useable for short trips (assuming you're not carrying basketball players), and the trunk is big enough for groceries and track tires. It'll be interesting packing it to move though.

That is great to hear as I need a car with a little better gas mileage than my Hemi Jeep haha. I'll still have the Jeep so space isn't a huge concern, but good to know I can shove some girls back there if need be :P

I think it has to do with altitude though. Results may vary. I'm at 7k feet. Less air means less fuel (and less power). Less fuel means higher MPGs. So I'm way underpowered up here, but at least I get good economy.
